Online Pilot Training: Introduction to DNS And Introduction to OSPF and BGP

KeNOG will be running pilot online training on two topics: Introduction to OSPF and BGP and Introduction to DNS. The pilot courses are aimed at novice to intermediate level engineers interested in building their skills in these areas. The courses will lean more on lab work and exercises.

Why online courses?

Online courses would allow face to face workshops to cover more complex topics. Additionally, the online courses would function as pre-requisites to face to face trainings to ensure learners attending in person trainings understand the basics. Feedback from this pilot run will be used to implement future online courses. The topics to be covered - DNS, OSPF and BGP - are key skillsets required in all ISP networks running today. The pilot courses will include between one and three modules. Once the pilot is completed and evaluated, trainees who participate will be invited to take the courses in full later this year.

Course Content

  • Introduction to DNS – This online course will cover how to install and run a caching DNS server on Debian/Ubuntu.
  • Introduction to OSPF and BGP – This online course will cover how to configure basic OSPF and basic BGP on Mikrotik and or FRR routers.

Trainees should:

  • Only register for either course (not both)

  • Have basic understanding of networking and how to enter commands on command line

  • Complete a mandatory anonymous survey after the course

The pilot will run on the week of March 31st to April 4th 2025
